TIPPING

The general Tipping games will now allow you to enter your tips for any Round at any time, and you may enter or edit your tips for each game right up until the published start time for each match! Use the comprehensive 'Your Record' and 'Match Facts' facilities to assist you when making the all important selections.

You'll receive 1 point for every correct tip. If you tip all winners in any given Round, you'll receive a BONUS score of 2 points (for a maximum of 10). See further below for the complete details on how points are awarded.

Be sure to enter a Margin Prediction for the first match of the Round in time. Your margin prediction is used as a tie-breaker if there's more than one tipper with the same score. This score is accumulated throughout the season. If you forget to enter your margin, you'll get the average tipping margin from everyone playing as your prediction for that particular Round.

If you forget to enter tips for any match before the cut-off time, you'll automatically be given the AWAY team as your selection and you'll score points based on results for all missed matches. If joining at a latter stage during the season, you'll receive the average scores from each completed Round, up to a maximum of 4 points for any completed Round that you missed.

Results are made available shortly after the completion of the round, with full results and rankings being confirmed and finalised within a few hours of the completion of each Round. The general Tipping Competition includes all of the finals.
ELIMINATOR

Tipping Eliminator is a brand new concept for AFL, challenging you to pick ONE unique winning team and maintain a streak of wins during the 2008 AFL season, with the maximum achievable streak being 16. However, the catch is that you can only pick each team for any upcoming Round ONCE during the season, so selection strategy and order of picks based on team form and their season fixture plays a big part. Once you have picked a team correctly, they cannot be selected again for the remainder of the season! An incorrect team picked means that you are 'eliminated' and your streak comes to an end, however you can immediately start on a new streak (and all teams will become available again).

If you're not feeling confident (or you forget to make a pick) for any upcoming Round, you can simply skip it. Your streak will be maintained without any penalty. Remember, the maximum achievable streak is 16 and skipping too many Rounds may mean that it will not be possible to achieve a perfect score of 16.

Your best win streak will always be stored even if you are eliminated. You will be ranked based on your best win streak until and when/if you can improve on it. Your margin prediction is used as a tie-breaker if there's more than one entry with the same win streak. This score is accumulated throughout the season, with the lowest margin score being the highest-ranked. The Eliminator competition concludes at Round 22.
ONE TEAM TIP

One Team Tip is the brand new competition that allows you to test your skill by predicting the result of your single selected team for the entire 2008 Season. Select your club on entry (it can be your own club that you support, or any other). Each week, you will be required to predict whether you selected team will win or lose, and the score margin.

You will receive a Margin Score each week based on the accuracy of your prediction. For example, if you tip your team to win by 10 points and they only win by 5, your weekly Margin Score will be 5 points. If you tip your team to win by 10 points and it loses by 20, your weekly Margin Score will be 30 (the difference between your prediction and the actual score). You will be ranked based on your cumulative margin score, with the lowest score being ranked highest.

If you forget to enter your One Team Tip prediction for any upcoming Round, you will receive the average margin score for that Round from ALL entries in the competition. Similarly, if joining at a later stage in the season, you will start with an average score for all missed rounds from all entries. One Team Tip concludes at Round 22.

Here is how points will be awarded and calculated in the LIVENEWS AFL Tipping competition, for each of the three games:

Point Scoring - LIVENEWS AFL Tipping
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Correct Tip 1 Point
Incorrect Tip 0 Points
Drawn Match 1 Point
Bonus Score for tipping ALL winners correctly in any given Round 2 Points
Non-submission of tips for any given match AWAY team selected by default
Non-submission of Margin Prediction Average Margin Score for the Round will be awarded
ELIMINATOR:
Win Streak The Win Streak score is incremented by 1 for every Round where a winner is selected.
Non-Submission If an entry is not submitted for any given Round, that Round is void and the Win Streak is maintained.
Incorrect Tip An incorrect Tip breaks the Win Streak and the entry is reset to 0 for the following Round. The best Win Streak is stored as the "Best Win Streak" and the entry is ranked on this basis, until and when that Win Streak is improved upon. Margin Prediction - must be submitted for a valid entry for any upcoming Round.
ONE TEAM TIP
Margin Score & Cumulative Margin Score One Team Tip entry is ranked on the basis of the lowest Margin Score awarded being the best (see below on how the Margin Score is calculated).
Margin Prediction must be submitted for a valid entry for any upcoming Round. Non-submission for any given Round - the average Margin Score for that particular Round from ALL entries will be awarded.
LATE ENTRIES
Tipping the entry will receive the average tips score for any previously completed Round, rounded down to the nearest whole number, up to a maximum of 4 points being awarded for all missed Rounds.
Eliminator entry may be made an any time, starting with a Win Streak of 0.
One Team Tip the entry will receive the average Margin Score from all previously missed Rounds, based on ALL entries irrespective of the team selected.
MARGIN SCORE:

  • The Margin Score is used as a tie-breaker, should more than one entry be ranked equally based on Correct Tips (Tipping) or an equal Tip Streak (Eliminator). The Margin Score is the primary ranking used for the One Team Tip Competition.
  • The Margin Score is calculated for each competition based on the difference between the submitted Margin Prediction and the actual result. For example, if a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the actual Result is a WIN by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded will be 5 points. If a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the team LOSES by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded is 15 points.
  • The Cumulative Margin Score is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for all completed Rounds to date. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest.
